City minister John Glen dismisses EU threats to London’s financial crown

City Minister claims Paris, Frankfurt and Dublin are not ‘realistic alternatives in any significant sense’

City minister John Glen has dismissed attempts by Europe’s main financial centres to draw financial jobs and revenues away from London ahead of the UK’s split from the EU.

Giving evidence to a EU Financial Affairs Sub-Committee on Tuesday, Glen said the modest contingency planning by London-based banks and fund managers underlined the “remarkable” stability of the City amid the uncertainty of Brexit.
