The City woke up to an inconclusive US election result on 4 November, as a narrow Trump victory in Florida kept the US president in the race, with results still to declare in a number of key north-eastern battlegrounds.

The contest between President Donald Trump and former Vice-President Joe Biden is reckoned to be one of the most consequential US elections in years, and with results delayed in many crucial states thanks to a record proportion of early and absentee voting amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the race was still competitive as of the early morning UK time.
