Owners of popular City restaurants have slammed cash handouts offered by the government to offset new lockdown restrictions as paltry compensation for the hit they will take from bankers and finance professionals staying away.

The cash grants of £2,100 per month for hospitality, leisure and accommodation businesses were unveiled by chancellor Rishi Sunak on 22 October as part of sweeping measures to help businesses in towns and cities placed under tier-two coronavirus restrictions.
