Civil servant replaces ex-banker in key Treasury post

The UK Treasury has made an internal appointment to replace former UBS banker James Sassoon as managing director of the finance and industry directorate, the key liaison job between government and London's financial community.

John Kingman, director of the Treasury's enterprise and growth unit will take the position on January 10 and become one of Chancellor Gordon Brown's closest advisers on the City of London.
