CD&R set to sprinkle its magic over B&M

The near-£1bn auction for UK retailer B&M was a hard-fought battle. FN explains how ex-Tesco boss Terry Leahy helped swing the deal for Clayton Dubilier & Rice

In December last year, New York and London-based private equity firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice reached an agreement to buy a significant stake in B&M Retail, a chain of discount retail stores based in Liverpool in the north of England.

The deal catapulted the company's owners, the Manchester-based Arora Brothers, into the Sunday Times Rich List, and gave them a successful operational partner to help expand the business throughout the UK and internationally.
