Clifford Chance has committed to seven targets for gender, ethnicity and LGBTQ+ representation across the firm’s global workforce, making it the first Magic Circle law firm to update its measurable targets following the emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The announcement from Clifford Chance comes after the firm revealed that only 1.2% of its 177 UK partners self-identify as Black, while 4.3% categorise themselves as Asian, according to its 2019 ethnicity review. Globally the firm has almost 600 partners and a workforce of 6,600.
