The government’s move to abolish Britain’s payments regulator is “little more than a branding exercise” and unlikely to meaningfully boost growth, executives have told Financial News.

Prime minister Keir Starmer announced on 11 March that he would abolish the Payment Systems Regulator and fold it into the Financial Conduct Authority.
