Coinbase narrows Q1 loss to $79m as trading volume slips 53%

Total trading volume fell to $145bn in the first quarter from $309bn a year ago

Coinbase Global reported a fifth consecutive quarter of losses as individual investor enthusiasm for crypto trading on the platform remained stagnant.

The biggest cryptocurrency exchange in the US posted a loss of $79m in the first quarter, narrowing its loss of $430m a year ago. The improvement was largely driven by operational cost cutting, including a 20% reduction in workforce announced in January.
