Collateral proved sole flaw in system

Asset owners, custodians and other third-party agents believe that the securities lending system stood up well in the financial crisis.

However, problems occurred once collateral was reinvested for the lender. Julian Pittam, managing director at analyst Data Explorers, said: "There were no losses made by the process of securities lending, but rather in the reinvestment of collateral."
