The Combined Code on corporate governance, which sets best practice governance guidelines for UK companies, is out of date and needs to be reappraised, according to PIRC, the proxy voting advisers.

Alan MacDougall, PIRC's managing director, says: "Against some of the recent developments here and overseas, the Combined Code is looking distinctly rickety. It's time for a formal and wide-ranging review."
