Comdirect diversifies to act as financial adviser

Comdirect, the German online bank owned by Commerzbank, is to diversify its business by selling financial advice to investors, after falling equity markets continued to mar the bank's first quarter brokerage earnings.

Comdirect will launch the new advisory division in 2004 and expects to hire 180 staff to the division by 2006. It also intends to extend its direct banking operation.
