Goldman Sachs has taken less than 24 hours to reject an offer made by John Duffield for Jupiter Asset Management, the company that he founded and then left acrimoniously less than two years ago.

Duffield, who now runs New Star Asset Management, sent a letter to Commerzbank's advisers saying that he would pay Jupiter's present owner £50m (€77.8m) more than any other reasonable offer.
