Companies given powers to fight hostile takeovers

MEPs have voted in favour of strengthening the position of companies threatened by hostile takeover bids.

The approval of amendments to European Commission company rules on takeover bids will be seen as a victory for German MEP Klaus-Heiner Lehne, one of the most outspoken voices on European mergers and acquisitions regulation. He has been spearheading the campaign to allow companies to take more defensive measures against hostile takeover bids.
