UK companies are increasingly focusing on 'quality of life' issues in addition to extra pay as a means of holding on to valued staff, according to a survey carried out by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Half of the surveyed companies reported difficulties in retaining staff over the past year.
