A recent survey in the UK has found that 66% of employees and 94% of employers believe contributions to stakeholder pensions will need to become compulsory to ensure that pension provision is adequate. The belief on both sides is rooted in the complexity of pensions rules and the general public's darkness about pensions.
Despite all that has been stated about stakeholder pensions, a Mori poll carried out for consultants, Towers Perrin, found that more than 75% of the general public had not heard of stakeholder pensions or knew nothing about them. Bruce Moss, principal at Towers Perrin, said: "These results should worry the Government profoundly."
