The UK woke up to a hung parliament this morning as Theresa May's snap-election gambit spectacularly backfired.

As of 06:41 GMT, with only seven of 650 constituencies still to declare, the Conservatives had lost a net 12 seats, and are certain to fall short of an overall majority in Parliament.
