Consultants pile on pressure over fees

Institutional investors and their advisers are pressuring asset managers on their fees as never before, as disappointing returns and reduced expectations for the future take their toll.

Pension schemes and other institutional investors that are clients of investment consultant Towers Watson paid their fund managers 37 basis points of assets in fees last year, on average, compared with 56bps of assets in 2007, the last time the survey was conducted.
