Covid-19 infections fall by 30% in England, major study reveals

'While infections have fallen across England and the spread has slowed, it is crucial we safeguard gains made and keep R below 1', authors warn

The number of people infected with Covid-19 across England fell by almost a third during the four-week national lockdown, a large-scale study of the pandemic showed.

The figures mean the epidemic is now in decline, with 96 people per 10,000 infected with the virus between 13 and 24 November. This is compared to 132 per 10,000 in the week before the second national lockdown began.
