US-based financial services firm Cowen has agreed to acquire agency broker Convergex in a deal it says will position it as a leading independent equities trading platform.

Convergex is joint-owned by private equity firm GTCR, BNY Mellon and other shareholders. The deal is worth $116 million in cash and Cowen common stock, the firm said in a statement today.
