Although it has been a few decades since Frank Sinatra first sang the legendary song, “New York, New York,” the desire to conquer the Big Apple still resonates. However, succeeding in the city that never sleeps isn’t easy for private equity firms.

EQT, one of Europe's largest private equity houses, announced this week it closed its debut US fund with $726 million, even though getting there was hardly a slam dunk.
