Craig Newman is the “driving force” behind Woodford Investment Management, according to its website. The chief executive, who set up the company with long-time colleague Neil Woodford in 2014, holds a 35% stake in the business and looks after all day-to-day management.

But as crisis has engulfed the company in recent weeks, with thousands of investors unable to access their savings and scrambling for answers, Newman has been largely silent.
