Clara Furse, previously group chief executive of Credit Lyonnais Rouse, looks set to become the new chief executive of the London Stock Exchange.

The LSE on Tuesday refused to comment on the identity of any of the potential candidates, or on when the next board meeting will take place. However, market sources widely expected Furse's appointment to go through following approval at an LSE board meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
