Crédit Lyonnais bounced back to profitability in the fourth quarter of 2002 as the investment banking division reported profits of €34m ($36.8m) after a €6m loss in the third quarter.

Although the results were well ahead of analysts' expectations, profits were still down on the €49m the bank reported for the fourth quarter 2001.
