Credit Suisse has hired a former head of business banking at UBS to run its Swiss operations, as the company vies for the top position in its home market while its old rival prepares to split up its three divisions.

Hans-Ulrich Meister will join Credit Suisse on September 1 as chief executive for Switzerland, a market that generates one-third of the bank's total profit.
