Hedge fund activist Crescendo Partners has criticised the board of US baseball card maker and confectioner, Topps Company, for failing to pursue a higher offer for the firm.

In a letter to the board Arnaud Ajdler, managing partner of Crescendo, claims the Topps board had presented a series of "half truths" in its proxy statement filed on Tuesday, which details the sales process.
