Just past the entrance inside the Mayfair Georgian townhouse headquarters of Crispin Odey's hedge fund is a framed drawing of a London cinema. The films on the cinema's marquee sign include Pulp Fiction — something of a coincidence, as Odey is enjoying a revival in his fortunes comparable with the one that John Travolta saw as a result of his appearance in Quentin Tarantino's 1994 crime saga.
Following substantial losses in 2016 and 2017 after his forecasts of a market crash failed to come to fruition, his flagship fund Odey European is the best performing hedge fund this year, according to HSBC, rising 25% in 2018.
