Don Cruickshank, chairman of the London Stock Exchange, has praised Mario Monti, the European Competition Comissioner, for pursuing a further investigation into trading and settlement monopolies in Europe.

Speaking at a capital markets seminar in Madrid on Thursday, Cruickshank outlined the need for urgent reform of Europe's fragmented clearing and settlement landscape.
