CSFB appoints negotiator Lynch to improve analyst independence

Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) has appointed Gary Lynch, its global general counsel and a former head of enforcement at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), to oversee its efforts in research independence.

The appointment did not surprise banking industry insiders, who rate Lynch highly as a securities lawyer and had even tipped him as a possible successor to Harvey Pitt as chairman of the SEC.
