Credit Suisse First Boston's efforts to propel itself to the forefront of the hedge fund services business have been dealt a blow with the departure of Art Mbanefo, global head of prime banking at the Swiss bank.

Mbanefo, who ran CSFB's prime banking division for less than two years, is set to join Paloma Partners, one of the world's largest hedge funds, which specialises in convertible arbitrage opportunities.
