State Street Global Advisors (SSgA) has appointed Ralph Smith as an investment manager for its currency management team in London.

Smith joins SSgA, the investment management arm of State Street Corporation, from Pareto Partners, a London-based currency overlay and global fixed income manager. SSgA's total assets under management have grown by 37% from a year ago to reach $720bn.
