Customers will stash cash if BoE imposes negative rates on UK banks, Mervyn King warns

Former Bank of England governor Mervyn King warned that people may choose to save money by stashing it at home if the central bank cuts rates below zero.

According to the former banker, negative rates “can’t work with a successful banking sector unless the banks can pass on negative rates to their retail customers”.
