Daily Covid testing in schools now halted in government U-turn

The lateral flow tests used in daily testing programmes have yet to be approved by the UK’s medicines regulator as a valid alternative to self-isolation

Plans to implement daily rapid testing of students and staff in secondary schools are now on hold, five weeks after the £78m scheme was first announced.

The Department for Education has announced it is pausing the daily tests in English schools after receiving new health advice on the matter from Public Health England and NHS Test and Trace.
