Darling sets capital gains tax at 18% for one and all

Alistair Darling, the new UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, today revealed plans to revamp the country's complex capital gains tax regime and introduce a flat 18% rate, after coming under pressure to raise more taxes from private equity deals.

Currently, the UK's Revenue & Customs department tapers the tax to a low of 10% once an investment is held for more than two years.
