Defined benefit schemes face closure

More than half of all defined benefit pension schemes could be forced to close by the current economic crisis, according to research from the National Association of Pensions Funds, leading the pensions body to ask for UK Government intervention in the industry.

In the organisation's latest survey, NAPF calls on the Government to take radical action to help solve the problems facing the pensions industry in the same way that it has taken bold steps to alleviate the banking crisis.
