Deutsche Bank announced Sunday that it will replace CEO John Cryan, who has presided over a difficult period for the bank marked by cost-cutting, with retail banking executive Christian Sewing, effective immediately.

According to a statement by the bank, Cryan will leave the bank at the end of April.
