Deutsche Bank has accelerated efforts to line up a successor to chief executive John Cryan, including hiring a headhunter to recruit external candidates, according to people familiar with the matter.

Deutsche began its search for a new leader in earnest in recent weeks. The list of candidates to replace Cryan will include executives from inside and outside the bank.
