JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank will significantly reduce the number of employees in their UK offices after prime minister Boris Johnson called for a return to working from home as cases of the Omicron Covid variant have increased.

The German lender will return to a similar working pattern to earlier in the Covid-19 pandemic, with only essential staff including traders and their support staff within its offices from 13 December, according to a person familiar with the matter.
