Deutsche Börse denies bid for LSE

Deutsche Börse denied that it plans to bid for the London Stock Exchange (LSE) as it confirmed growth targets of up to 15% for 2002 on the back of record earnings during the past year.

Werner Seifert, chief executive, said in a statement: &quotAdditional economies of scale and thus lower unit costs can be achieved by further perfecting the core functions and taking over the trading, clearing and settlement volumes of other exchange organisations.&quot
