Deutsche Börse is taught painful lesson by LSE saga

Failure of bid puts spotlight on country's corporate governance

Werner Seifert, chief executive of Deutsche Börse, assured an investor conference in Frankfurt more than five years ago: "Good governance pays off."

It is a lesson Seifert seems to have forgotten as Deutsche Börse's bid for the London Stock Exchange was torpedoed by a combination of managerial arrogance, board aloofness and woeful investor relations.
