Investors warned direct buyouts will 'end in tears'

Fund managers have warned that the growing popularity among investors of bypassing private equity firms to carry out their own buyouts will fail due to a lack of expertise

The growing trend for pension funds and other investors to bypass private equity firms to carry out their own buyouts will “end in tears” and many will fail, according to some of Europe’s best-known fund managers.

Speaking at a round table hosted by private equity advisory firm Triago, senior executives warned many investors would fail due to their lack of expertise in direct investments.
