Directors attack liability law proposals as too weak

The failure to offer greater protection could hinder recruitment to the boardroom

The UK government's latest proposals on director and auditor liability have been criticised for failing to offer enough protection and being short on detail.

The Department of Trade and Industry last week announced limited measures for protecting directors from potentially ruinous litigation. Under the proposals, to be included into the companies bill, a business will be able to indemnify directors against the costs of class action lawsuits by shareholders.
