Bonuses are set to shrink this year, with a lack of attrition in the ranks set to lead to more ‘doughnuts’, according to bankers and compensation experts.

Banks including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and Evercore have hiked pay costs this year despite an ongoing slump in deal activity. However, a strained year for bonuses means firms are set to prioritise high-performers.
