James Caan, one of the five judges from the Dragons' Den, the BBC's show for would-be entrepreneurs, has backed the launch of a fund manager targeting retail investors amid predictions of mass company casualties in the industry.

Spike Hughes, founding member of Skandia Investment Management, has created Insynergy and attracted Caan's support after a mutual introduction.
