Dutch bank ties up with UN on $1bn sustainable farming drive

Partnership aims to bring in other banks and investors to make agricultural finance greener

Dutch bank ties up with UN on $1bn sustainable farming drive

Rabobank, the Dutch co-operative lender, and the UN's environment agency are putting up $1bn to fund improved farming practices and tackle climate change in the developing world.

The bank and agency say their aim is to fund "sustainable agriculture" through a mixture of grants, loans and de-risking instruments, such as loan guarantees. The two partners are splitting the financial commitment 50-50, according to a Rabobank spokeswoman.
