Observers predicted a bright future in venture capital for Goldman Sachs' star European technology banker when he left the US bank to set up an investment fund last year.

Paul Harvey was one of the biggest names in European technology investment banking. As head of Goldman Sachs' European technology team, he was responsible for more than $60bn (€46bn) of mergers and acquisitions and $16bn of equity issues between 1999 and 2003.
