EU foxes banks with long-term bonus puzzle

Long-term incentive plans, used by banks to reward many of their most senior and best paid employees, face being “blown up” by proposed changes to EU regulations.

Pay consultants and lawyers have warned that draft European Banking Authority guidelines issued last week threaten the existence of these plans, which are a key part of banks' remuneration strategies, tying pay to future performance by paying staff in shares they can access typically after three years.
