EC probes bids for Antonveneta and BNL

The European Commission is to decide within 30 days whether to allow two international bids for control of Italian banks, European Union officials confirmed yesterday.

Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, Spain's second largest bank, informed the Commission on Tuesday of its €6.44bn ($8.3bn) all-share bid for the 85% of Italian rival Banca Nazionale del Lavoro it does not already own.
