ECB chief wants to push through euro-clearing rules ahead of Brexit

The head of the European Central Bank has urged EU lawmakers to push through legislation on euro clearing, which has been a contentious issue since the Brexit vote, "well in advance" of the UK's exit.

In a speech at the economic affairs committee of the European Parliament in Brussels today, Mario Draghi stressed the importance of central clearing houses, or CCPs, which stand between two counterparties and guarantee a trade in the case that either side defaults.
