ECB offers cheap loans to banks to lessen economic impact of virus

European Central Bank boosts firepower to contain the economic fallout from the coronavirus

The European Central Bank said it would expand its stimulus measures to include cheaper loans for banks, amplifying its firepower to contain the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

As part of the effort, the bank said it would launch new long-term loans for eurozone lenders, lower the interest rate on an existing batch of loans, and stands ready to increase purchases under a recently announced bond-buying program.
