Edinburgh Fund Managers (EFM) has opened discussions with a variety of firms which may lead to it receiving a takeover offer.

Parties said to be interested in the firm, advised by Hawkpoint, include Isis Asset Management and John Duffield's New Star. News of the bid approaches resulted in an immediate 9.5p rise in its share price to 83p on turnover of nearly two million shares.
